From Bones to Muscles — Mastering the Scientific Foundations of Yoga Asanas
This course is designed for yoga teachers, experienced practitioners, and students interested in human anatomy. Through 16 hours of systematic instruction, it deeply explores the anatomical principles behind yoga postures. Combining sports kinesiology, functional muscle anatomy, and hands-on model practice, the course helps students understand how body structures function safely and efficiently in asanas, fundamentally enhancing teaching quality and personal practice awareness.
Course Objectives
Understand human skeletal structure, joint types, and their movement mechanics in yoga.
Master the activation, stretching, and synergistic roles of 40 key muscle groups in common yoga poses.
Learn to apply anatomical knowledge to prevent sports injuries and design safer class sequences.
Translate theory into practical teaching tools through skeletal model observation and muscle palpation practice.
Instructor Introduction: Cora Cheng
Cora Cheng is a senior yoga instructor based in Hong Kong with 19 years of full-time teaching experience. She is also the founder of Joyous Yoga, a Yoga Alliance-accredited RYS200 and RYS300 teacher training school. Cora holds Yoga Alliance’s highest teaching credential, E‑RYT 500, and is an approved Continuing Education Provider (YACEP).
Her teaching integrates yoga philosophy, human kinesiology, and practical rehabilitation knowledge, with a focus on scientifically deconstructing asanas to help students enhance the safety and effectiveness of their practice and teaching. Beyond her yoga expertise, Cora possesses multiple related certifications, including:
